What is a Colonoscopy?
A colonoscopy is a safe, minimally invasive procedure used to examine the large intestine (colon) and rectum. Using a flexible tube equipped with a camera, our specialists can detect and diagnose conditions such as colorectal cancer, polyps, or inflammation.
Speak to your Health Care Provider to consider a Colonoscopy
You may need a colonoscopy if you experience:
- Persistent changes in bowel habits
- Blood in your stool
- Abdominal pain, bloating, or cramping
- Unexplained weight loss
- Screening/ Surveillance colonoscopy as per Cancer Care Ontario Guidelines
What to Expect
The procedure typically lasts about 30-60 minutes. You will be deeply sedated to ensure comfort throughout. You may choose to go without sedation. After the colonoscopy, you can resume normal activities, though we recommend taking the day to rest. You are unable to drive or operate heavy machinery for 12 hours after your procedure.
