What is a Flexible Sigmoidoscopy?
A flexible sigmoidoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure used to examine the lower part of your colon (the sigmoid colon) and rectum. Using a flexible tube with a camera, our specialists can detect and diagnose conditions such as colorectal cancer, polyps, inflammation, and other gastrointestinal issues. This procedure is shorter and less invasive than a full colonoscopy but still provides essential insights into your digestive health.

What to Expect
The procedure typically lasts approximately 10-20 minutes and although does not require it, you may opt for the sedation if you choose. During the procedure a thin, flexible tube is gently inserted into the rectum, allowing our specialists to examine the sigmoid colon. You can expect minimal discomfort and can resume most activities shortly after the procedure, though some patients prefer to take the day off for rest.
